Story: Aditya (Amitabh Bachchan) is an artist whose heart beats to paint and draw. She goes on to help him paint an image of her mother that he could hang in his studio. In the process, Anjali meets Shailesh (Rishi Kapoor), a successful businessman who falls in love with her. He makes a proposal to marry her but she declines as all his money and materialistic ways don’t appeal to her. This is a story that takes place in the 1940s, where the people of India are forced to give up their own cultural traditions and syncretic beliefs because of the pressures of British colonization.
